What 16K resolution actually means
16K describes a long edge of roughly 15,360 pixels — four times the width of 4K and eight times the width of 1080p. Because pixel count scales with area, the jump is bigger than the numbers suggest: a 16K frame holds about 16 times the pixels of a 4K frame.

Getting a real 16K result, not a stretched one
Start above 1,536px
The model enlarges up to 10x, so a 15,360px long edge needs a source of at least ~1,536px. A modern phone photo (4,000px+) clears this easily; a saved social thumbnail does not.
Upscale before you crop
Cropping first throws away the pixels the model needs. Upscale the full frame, then crop into the 16K result — you keep far more real detail that way.
Keep noise scale low for faces
Higher noise scale invents crisper texture, which looks great on foliage and fabric but drifts on skin, teeth and small text. Portraits and documents belong near 0.05–0.15.
Skip re-compressed sources
JPEG artifacts get enlarged along with the subject. A screenshot of a screenshot will produce a very large image with the original blockiness baked in at 16K.
Match the format to the job
PNG for print and archival, JPG when the file needs to be shared, WebP when it goes on the web. A 133MP PNG is easily several hundred megabytes.
Check at 100%, not fit-to-screen
A 16K image looks perfect zoomed out no matter what. Judge the result at full pixel size, in the area that actually matters for your output.

What resolution is a 16K image?+
A long edge of roughly 15,360 pixels. In 16:9 that is 15360 × 8640px, about 133 megapixels. A 3:2 photo at the same long edge comes out 15360 × 10240px.
Can any photo be upscaled to 16K?+
Upscaling is capped at 10x, so a true 15,360px long edge needs a source around 1,536px or larger. Smaller images still upscale — they simply top out below 16K, and the tool tells you the exact ceiling before you run it.
Does 16K upscaling invent detail?+
Yes, in the sense that no upscaler can recover information that was never captured. The model reconstructs plausible texture instead of duplicating pixels, and the noise scale slider controls how far it goes. Keep it low when accuracy matters more than crispness.
