Design guidelines
Beautiful, but still scannable
A QR code can carry your colours without becoming unreadable — but only within limits set by how scanners actually work. These are the ones worth knowing.
Keep real contrast
Scanners read luminance, not colour. Two colours can look very different and still be almost identical in brightness, which is exactly when scanning fails.
Dark modules, light background
It is what readers expect. Inverted codes usually work on modern phones, but you lose the older ones for no real design gain.
Protect the quiet zone
Leave the margin empty. Text or artwork pushed up against the edge of a code stops scanners locating it at all.
Print it big enough
As a rule of thumb, a code should be at least a tenth as wide as the distance it is scanned from. A poster read from two metres needs roughly a twenty-centimetre code.
Test the real thing
Check the final printed piece, not just the screen preview — with more than one phone, and in the light the code will actually live in.
Keep payloads short
A long URL makes a denser matrix that is harder to scan small. Shorten the link first and the code gets noticeably simpler.

FAQ
Questions about QR codes
Is this really an AI QR code generator?
The code itself is not generated by AI, and that is deliberate. A QR code is structured data with error correction built in, so it is encoded here by a standard QR library that produces a mathematically correct matrix every time. Design choices — colour, module shape, error-correction level — are yours, and none of them alter the underlying data.
Will my QR code actually scan?
Every theme on this page is tested against a real QR decoder as part of our automated tests, at all four error-correction levels, so the payload is verified to survive encoding. The scan-safety meter also checks contrast as you edit. That said, printing matters too: test your own phone against the final printed piece before you order a thousand of them.
Is my link or text private?
Yes. The code is encoded in your browser — what you type is never uploaded to a server, never sent to an AI model and never saved to your account. Nothing leaves the page unless you download the file yourself.
Do the codes expire or get tracked?
No. These are static QR codes: the URL or text is encoded directly into the matrix. There is no redirect service in between, so nothing expires, nothing is counted, and the code keeps working as long as the destination does. The trade-off is that you cannot change where it points afterwards.
Which error-correction level should I choose?
M is a sensible default for screens and clean print. Use Q or H when the code will be small, printed on packaging that creases, placed on a curved surface, or partly covered by a logo. Higher levels make the code denser but let it survive more damage.
What is the quiet zone and why does it matter?
It is the empty margin around the code. Scanners use it to find where the code begins, so without it many readers simply fail. Every code here includes the four-module quiet zone the specification requires — keep that clear space when you place the code in a layout.
Can I add a logo in the middle?
Not on this page. A centred logo covers part of the matrix and only stays scannable because high error correction repairs the damage, which is easy to get wrong. If you need one, generate at level H here, add the logo in a design tool, keep it small, and test the result with several phones before using it.
PNG or SVG?
Use PNG for screens, documents and quick sharing. Use SVG for print: it is vector, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size, from a business card to a billboard.
These are static codes: the destination is encoded directly and cannot be changed later, and nothing is tracked. Always test the final printed piece before producing it in quantity.
